I can’t quite believe Flavour Diaries has been open for 6 months…Time has flown by! Since the day I conceptualised it, I couldn’t be happier with the way it’s turned out and how much Mumbai has embraced this new idea.

Around this time last year I had my last few days of photography for my cookbook and I started wondering about my next big project. I had a crazy few months getting my recipes written and tested that I hadn’t had a chance to think too far into the future. As I pondered my options I started to think about what I love most about my job…and soon enough I’d figured how I could make my dream come true.

6 months ago I signed up for a crazy cycle challenge to pedal 420km across Rajasthan in a bid to raise £100,000 with around 20 other foodie professionals for Action Against Hunger. Another eventful foodie trip to Mumbai and I have returned to London with even more recipe ideas. As with all my trips, I usually research the newest hot restaurants and try to visit as many of them as I can. Spiceklub in Lower Parel in Mumbai came up more than once and I decided I had to go.

My stay in Hyderabad was short but I managed to eat 3 meals a day and sample the best local dishes the city has to offer.

I’ve been to India many times, but this food research trip was long overdue. On my last trip I sampled all the usual delights from street food through to five star hotel restaurants, and never went hungry nor did I feel disappointed with the food choices. I’m half way through my trip and it feels like I’m in a whole new city. It’s as if foodie Mumbai powered down and it’s reboot is tastier, more exciting and evolving quicker than ever.

I’ve decided to do something crazy and have signed up for a cycle challenge for the wonderful Action Against Hunger charity. In October I’m going to be packing my water bottle and cycle helmet and heading to Rajasthan in India for a mammoth 400km cycle.
